Personal Statement

A senior student of Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, I am writing in support of my application for acceptance to MSc in International Marketing Management at Leeds University. With my solid education that is as colorful as it is rare, I believe that, under your seasoned guidance, I can build upon my strong background, for a pioneering career in China.

International Marketing Management is a fused field covers the knowledge of marketing, enterprise, economics and so on. Hence, it not only requires solid foundation of business administration, but also needs to combine it with the knowledge of international marketing concept. Presently, with China’s entry into WTO and its successful bid for the 2008 Olympic Games, the Chinese enterprises are developing very quickly and what they need urgently now are experts equipped with advanced concepts and professional skills, especially the talents in commerce and management. With my keen interest and the requirement of future’s career, I determined to study in this field I am applying for in Britain. However, in today’s China, talents who know only traditional management are more than ones who are proficient in both management and marketing. In my opinion, it is important for Chinese to study more advanced knowledge in developed countries. With the approaching end to my undergraduate program and my strong interest in marketing management, I am longing for furthering my study management in Britain to enrich my knowledge and broaden my vision. I am confident that I have been well-prepared for further study.

I was matriculated in Tianjin University of Finance and Economics in 2001 with specialty of Business Administration and will graduate next year. During these years at university, I try my best to study hard and keep myself as one of top students. Also, I have got the certificate of CET Band 4. Interested in the knowledge of management and marketing, I also learned by myself International Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Psychology, Statistics, etc. In addition to academic studying, I also pay attention to practicing. During the practice of Production Operation, I did market survey for China Putian Tianjin Branch of Telephone Facilities. Analyzing seriously the establishment, operation and organizational structure, I practiced my knowledge in work. Also, under the guidance of our professor, I, together with my classmates, researched the forty hospitals in Tianjin, and analyzed their addresses, services, facilities, clients’ feedback, and so on. Through which, we wrote a successful report, wining appreciation.

I am a leader in my class, Leader of Physical Education Association, and MB Basketball Club; also, I manage other four subsidiary clubs. On my duty, I organized a series of league matches. Before each competition, I contact some companies and strive for their sponsors. Although I spent lots of time in extra-curricular activities, I learned how to organize activities, how to cooperate with others with my teamwork spirit, and how to negotiate with companies to get sponsor. All these involvement will benefit me in future study and work, I believe.

I’m aware that your university is a vibrant and exciting university that is renowned for its high standard of teaching, its strong atmosphere for study and research, as well as its first-class facilities. You want bright, creative and self-motivated people to come and study and I want to obtain the best possible learning experience, and, of course, the knowledge and skills I need to attain my life goals. So I believe that I have made an absolutely right decision to choose your university to do my further program. And your positive consideration of my application will be highly appreciated.

The motto I like most is that: no ship is fire-new if it sails regularly, which tells me to be brave to face any challenge. Now, I am mature, and I can bear any failure. So I believe I can complete my program smoothly in the future.
